What’s The Right Position To Transport A Refrigerator?

It’s important to know that, depending on the compressor used in the system, the instructions are different. 

The ideal position for transporting a refrigeration system is the one in which it normally is: upright. Equipment such as household refrigerators or vertical displays should stand upright. Chest freezers, in turn, should be kept horizontally. This prevents damage to the inner parts of the compressor while maintaining the oil away from the suction chamber.

However, it’s not always possible to transport it in its conventional position. An example: a refrigerator standing upright in the back of a vehicle can prevent the passage under a bridge or entry into a low garage. In such cases, we need to lay it down or tilt it. Prior to this, it’s essential to get information on how to proceed with the refrigerator’s manufacturer or from the product handling manual. With regard to compressor safety, it’s necessary to check what model is used and follow the instructions provided by Embraco. For each compressor family, there are acceptable transport positions and others that are forbidden. The tip is to be aware where the compressor label and hermetic terminal position will be. See examples in the table below.

It should also be remembered that, during transport, the compressors must be properly mounted and securely attached to the refrigerator.

After transporting it, wait some time before turning it on, keeping it in its normal position, but unplugged. Approximately two hours are sufficient so that if some oil from the compressor entered the suction chamber, it can flow back into the compressor.
